Story shared: The ritual

A cold Friday night in Sudbury, winter 1969. Our Friday night ritual after a long work week: pulling out the sofabed in our little apartment to watch Friday night movies. Boots is working afternoon shifts this week at the Levack Mine where we both worked and will be back in Sudbury after midnight. We leave the door unlocked.Around 1 am Judy and I wake up to the aroma of an Xlarge Cortina's all-dressed pizza. And there is Boots, sitting in the armchair with a slice of pizza in one hand and a beer in the other."Want a beer, Bob?", .For the next few hours we eat pizza, drink beer and discuss the events of the past week and the latest news from Westport. Around 3am Boots calls a cab and promises to meet up with us sometime on Saturday.

I also think of the year in Brockville when Boots and I shared an apartment with Tommy Ryan and "Churn" Murphy.

Thanks for the memories, Boots.

Dear Tami and Howard... I was so saddened by your mothers call on Sunday telling me about Boots passing. Your dad was one of those individuals that once you knew him, you loved him and that love would last a lifetime. So glad I got to visit him a couple of times recently and he was always so proud of his roots and the name Traynor and you both carry that name to this day. Please accept my love and condolences at such a sad time in your lives...Uncle Mike!

As a hi-tech city boy moving to the outskirts of Perth I became acquainted with Boots via my vivacious neighbour Betty. With Boot's tutelage I became acquainted with "the Mountain", "the camps" (even became part owner of one) and the extensive ANT family and neighbours. Boot's legendary hospitality welcomed me and mine at every opportunity and I felt truly blessed to have him as a friend. If God has the same welcoming sense , I hope he has Boots placed at the Pearly Gates to usher the rest of us "in" when it's our time. rog

I remember going out to visit which would ultimately lead to a game of euchre with lots of laughs! And that hand shake when he greeted you, nearly crushed my fingers. Lol. A very strong man in so many ways and will be truly missed.

My first and olny trip to the Havloc jamboree and I could not believe that you were there and not only that but in a sweet RV! You never ceased to amaze me, you had a crowd gathered around you at Havloc of complete strangers listening to you tell an outlandish story. A ladies man for sure and you could sell ice to eskimoes to boot! Thinking on that memory I am in awe of how you could be the life of a party, how you lit up a room and were always big as life. You lived your life to fullest by the means which you chose and some people never do. You were one of a kind Boots and I will miss seeing you and enjoying your company. Tim

You were always running a game, some kind of game; usually to your advantage of course! I remember one reunion you had a board set up in front of your trailer. It was 5 bucks to get on the board and challenge, winner take all. I have many memories of poker games at the farm growing up, you liked to play black jack and not everyone liked the stakes! You had a knack for dealing twice in a row in most card games lol. In recent years when I arrived at your house we always had to play closest ball to the tree in your backyard, if you lost it was always double or nothing! I am going to miss you man you were truly one of a kind - a wild man from Foley mountain that was known far and wide.
